I have seen the greatest kittens of my generation destroyed by the madness of chasing a little red laser dot, hurling themselves into the infinite with reckless faith, convinced that this time, this glorious time, the impossible little red sun would finally surrender.
I have seen prophets emerge from cardboard boxes speaking ancient truths known only to creatures weighing less than four pounds. I have seen philosophers contemplate the ceiling fan until it revealed the great machinery of existence, then abandon the entire inquiry because someone opened a treat bag.
I have seen fearless revolutionaries reject the tyranny of folded laundry, the authoritarian regime of “No,” and the widely accepted but deeply flawed theory that a human lap belongs exclusively to the human occupying it. I have seen them sprint toward invisible destinies, collide magnificently with chair legs, and continue onward because momentum itself is a kind of religion.
I have seen visionaries perform miracles with bottle caps. I have seen poets interrupt the writing of history because there was, quite suddenly, a suspicious crinkle coming from the other room. I have seen warriors wage glorious campaigns against feather wands, charging cables, and that one leaf that somehow made it into the house and therefore clearly possessed important secrets.
I reject your spreadsheets. I reject your productivity. I reject your insistence that cardboard is merely cardboard and that a sunbeam is simply light.
I choose wonder. I choose curiosity. I choose the magnificent certainty that somewhere, just beyond the edge of the room, another tiny miracle is waiting to be chased.

Each September, wildlife enthusiasts witness one of the Central Coast’s most remarkable seasonal events.
Animal lovers begin gathering from every direction, drawn by an instinct scientists have yet to fully explain. They recognize one another almost immediately. One will casually mention their dog, prompting another to produce approximately 600 photos of their cat. Rescue stories are exchanged. Auction strategies are quietly discussed. By the end of the evening, complete strangers are cheering each other on over dessert.
Researchers have given this phenomenon a name: Whiskers Under the Moon.

Marcus has the social skills of someone who accidentally says “Love you” before hanging up with the bank.
The first thing he might do when meeting someone new is hiss. Not because he’s angry. Not because he wants trouble. It just seems to be how his little brain announces, “Oh! A person! Hello!” Unfortunately, society has assigned a different meaning to that particular sound.
Once everyone gets past Marcus’s admittedly unconventional greeting ritual, he’s an absolute gem. This four-year-old sweetheart at our Santa Barbara campus is active, affectionate, curious, and apparently even leash trained. He also enjoys listening to lo-fi beats, which feels exactly right for a cat who is trying very hard to exist peacefully despite occasionally sending the wrong email to the wrong department.
Marcus isn’t looking for someone who needs perfect communication. He’s looking for someone who understands that sometimes the sweetest souls just have a funny way of introducing themselves.

Meet Fuji, Empire, Honeycrisp, and McIntosh, four three-month-old Great Pyrenees/Great Dane mixes currently ripening to perfection at our Santa Barbara campus. They’re crisp, sweet, delightfully round in all the places that matter, and somehow already growing at a rate that should probably be studied by agricultural scientists.
They’re the apple of everyone’s eye, the pick of the litter, the cream of the crop (wrong produce, but we’re committed now), and they’re ready to cider-step right into someone’s heart. That’s right. Cider-step. If you groaned, congratulations. You’ve reached the core of this post.
