Let's Socialize!

You know that one kid in every neighborhood who claimed the cardboard box from the new refrigerator was “actually a secret headquarters,” furnished it with exactly one bottle cap and a stick, and then refused to leave for the rest of the summer?

Mojo Jojo gets it.

To the rest of us, it’s a slightly beat-up cardboard box. To him, it’s a mountain fortress. A spaceship. A top-secret laboratory. A five-star luxury condo. The rent is free, the acoustics are incredible, and every passing shoelace is considered highly suspicious.

At just two months old, Mojo Jojo has already figured out one of life’s greatest truths: happiness doesn’t require much. Just a cozy hiding spot, something to pounce on every now and then, and hopefully a human willing to admire his excellent real estate decisions.

Mojo Jojo is a two-month-old kitten available for adoption at our Santa Maria campus. We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

There should probably be regulations about making puppies this cute.

At the very least, there should be a warning label. Something like: Caution: May cause complete strangers to abandon whatever they were talking about in order to say, “OH MY GOSH, LOOK AT HER.”

Because that’s the effect Meme has. She doesn’t even have to do anything. She just sits there with those impossibly big eyes, those ridiculous little ears, and that tiny Yorkie face that somehow manages to look curious, sweet, mischievous, and completely innocent all at the same time. She’s the kind of puppy that makes people instinctively smile before they’ve even realized they’re smiling.

Meme is only four months old, but she’s already perfected the art of being offensively adorable. Frankly, it’s showing off.

Meme is a four-month-old Yorkie puppy available for adoption at our Santa Maria campus. We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

Is your dog a bit of a chicken?

Whether they’re nervous around new people, unsure in unfamiliar places, or convinced that a leaf blowing across the sidewalk is cause for concern, our Shy Dog Class can help.

Using positive reinforcement, we’ll help your dog build confidence at their own pace while giving you the tools to better understand and support them. Every brave moment, no matter how small, is worth celebrating.

Our Shy Dog Class is offered exclusively at our Santa Barbara Campus. Learn more and sign up at sbhumane.org/training

Lápiz looks like a tiny panther.

Apparently nobody explained that to Lápiz.

Imagine spending millions of years evolving into one of nature’s most majestic predators, only for one of your descendants to be thinking, “I hope that person comes back… they gave really good head scratches.”

When Lápiz first arrived at Santa Barbara Humane, he was pretty shy. But every day he gets a little braver, and once he trusts you, he starts gently nudging your hand for attention like he’s discovered that affection is actually a fantastic invention.

He’s still got the sleek black coat. The giant ears. The intense stare. But the second he decides you’re a friend, the whole “fearsome predator” thing falls apart.

Lápiz is available for adoption at our Santa Barbara Campus.

We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

You know what pairs well with Caramel?

Apples. Ice cream. Coffee. Brownies. Popcorn if you’re feeling adventurous.

Caramel has considered all of these and reached a different conclusion...she thinks the best pairing for Caramel is...a dog.

Specifically, a sweet, confident one who can casually demonstrate that the vacuum isn’t plotting anything, new people are usually pretty nice, and the backyard is, in fact, an excellent place to run around. At four months old, Caramel is still building her confidence, and she’d likely do best in a home with another dog who can help show her the ropes.

Caramel is a Pit Bull mix available for adoption at our Santa Barbara Campus. With a little patience, a canine role model, and people cheering her on, she’s ready to become an incredible companion.

We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.
