The owls are not what they seem. We checked. This one’s definitely a kitten.

Meet Hoot, a three-month-old male kitten at our Santa Maria campus who somehow manages to look both ancient and brand new at the exact same time. Those enormous ears, those bright golden eyes, that expression like he’s quietly processing information from a place the rest of us can’t access… it’s enough to make you wonder if maybe the log lady has been right about the owls all along.

Fortunately, the mystery isn’t all that difficult to solve. Hoot is delightfully kitten-like once you get to know him. He chases toys with great enthusiasm, investigates absolutely everything, and would almost certainly choose a cardboard box over unlocking the secrets of the universe. Almost.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is probably it. We can’t promise strange dreams, backwards-talking visitors, or a room with red curtains. We can promise one very handsome little black kitten who’s ready to make your home a whole lot more interesting.

Come meet Hoot at our Santa Maria campus. We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

The owls may not be what they seem, but Hoot really is exactly as wonderful as he looks.

Paddington had always suspected that the world was a very large place, full of curious sights, unfamiliar sounds, and people who moved much faster than seemed entirely necessary.

When he first arrived at Santa Barbara Humane after being rescued from a hoarding situation, everything felt rather overwhelming. Fortunately, one of our employees welcomed him into a foster home, where Paddington discovered that the world also contained gentle walks, kind dogs, soft blankets, and the remarkable comfort of taking things one small step at a time.

These days, Paddington approaches life the way any sensible little gentleman would. He prefers a proper introduction before declaring someone a friend. He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, appreciates a nice stroll, and believes cuddles are a splendid idea once everyone has had an opportunity to get acquainted. It is a philosophy that has served him quite well. He has also asked us to clarify one important point: despite sharing a name with a certain famous bear, he has absolutely no opinion whatsoever about marmalade. Cheese, on the other hand, remains under investigation.

Paddington is a one-year-old Terrier mix available for adoption. He is currently in a foster home, so if you are interested, please reach out to adopt@sbhumane.org to schedule a meeting with him. We think he would be happiest in a home with adults or older teenagers who understand that trust, much like the finest marmalade, cannot be hurried. Fortunately, unlike the marmalade, Paddington is quite worth the wait.

We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

Cats and kittens have spent centuries perfecting the art of looking impossibly adorable while convincing humans to rearrange their entire lives around them. Honestly, we respect the commitment.

After such an incredible response, Thursday Purrsday is officially sticking around through the end of September. That means cat and kitten adoption fees are waived every Thursday at both Santa Barbara Humane campuses, excluding VIP animals.

This week we’d like to introduce Peaches, a sweet two-month-old kitten at our Santa Barbara campus. She’s equal parts cuddle bug, curious explorer, and tiny professional heart thief. One look into those beautiful eyes and you’ll find yourself wondering whether your couch has always been missing a kitten-shaped accessory.

Come meet Peaches today. We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

Thor has the name of a Norse god and the body of a Norse god who discovered brunch.

At 67 pounds, this six-year-old Corgi mix is built a little less like the God of Thunder and a little more like the God of Seconds. Mjölnir? Still impressive. But these days, Thor’s true quest is a healthier lifestyle, and he’s looking for someone to join him on it.

Frankly? Kinda chic. Kinda aspirational. A daily walk. A little sunshine. Less snackys. Plenty of love. Thor is friendly and affectionate, seems to get along well with other dogs, and would likely be thrilled to have a walking buddy who believes fitness can be measured by joyful strolls rather than marathons.

If you’re looking for a dog who’s equal parts handsome, hilarious, and ready for his redemption arc, Thor is waiting to meet you at our Santa Maria Campus. Every superhero deserves a sequel, and this one just happens to involve more walks and fewer treats.

We are open for adoptions from 12 to 4:30 PM every day except Wednesdays.

Fashion magazines will tell you not to mix patterns. Venus would like to know who made up that rule.

Tortoiseshell? Absolutely. A little cream? Obviously. A bold stripe down the face? Necessary. A splash of warm caramel here, a touch of charcoal there, and just enough contrast to make every angle look like a different outfit. Somehow she’s wearing every trend at once, and instead of looking overdone, she looks like she just walked off the runway at Kitten Fashion Week.

The best part is that beneath all that effortless style is an equally lovely personality. Venus is a curious, sweet two-month-old kitten who wants to inspect every new toy, investigate every interesting sound, and make friends with everyone she meets. She may be a fashion icon, but she’s still very willing to chase a crinkly ball across the room.

Come meet Venus at our Santa Barbara campus. Trends come and go, but this look is timeless. We are open from 12 to 4:30 PM every day of the week except Wednesdays.
